Story

  1. Chapter 1 Trust Level 2

Bertrand was born to House Laegar in Goldenstrand. As the heir to a great noble family, he has been under scrutiny since the moment he was born. He inherited his family's talent for commerce, but showed an even greater aptitude in magic. Realizing the benefits of having a mage of their own, House Laegar spared no expense in his training.

  2. Chapter 2 Trust Level 4

The young Bertrand moved quickly from one tutor to another, as each one soon realized that his power surpassed what they could teach him. During his studies, he made a name for himself—mainly for the eyewatering sums that House Laegar lavished upon the College.

  3. Chapter 3 Trust Level 6

Money and power granted Bertrand a powerful self-confidence that some saw as unbridled arrogance. It was for this reason that Bertrand had few, if any, true friends—though this did not trouble him in the slightest. As he saw it, people are drawn together by mutual benefit. Anyone who might be of use could be called a friend; those with no value could only hope for his companionship if they made themselves useful.

  4. Chapter 4 Trust Level 8

Bertrand has conjured for himself a magical flying horse, which he has named Champion—the name of a beloved pony from his youth. The pony was stolen from him by an old man, who cheated him by feigning an illness. From that moment, Bertrand never raised another animal—or trusted another stranger.
