Chronology

In his youth, Lei Kuan and his sworn brother Meng Chen raised a volunteer force to fight off the local bandits, their bravery earning them a place under the Mareschal's command.

Together Lei Kuan and Meng Chen rose to the rank of Adjutant, quelling uprisings, eventually joining forces with Liang Ching the Tactician. Over time, battle forged the three into brothers.

But when strange omens appeared across Hsüan-Chou, the Darklings returned in force. Lei Kuan was promoted to Praetor, and the trio dispatched to the front lines to hold the border.

Tragically, the Lord of Shadow laid a trap, killing Meng Chen and Liang Ching. Enraged, Lei Kuan led his army to reclaim the fortress Meng Chen had once defended. But when they arrived, the Lord of Shadow had vanished without a trace.

Story

Chapter 1 Trust Level 2
Lei Kuan was born to an ordinary family of hunters. As a boy, he spent his days tracking game and herding livestock. His ancestors once served as soldiers during the Sunset of the Gods, but their names were lost to history, and no one in the family had joined the military since... until Lei Kuan. In his youth, he met Meng Chen, a fellow nobody with unmatched strength and a dream of becoming a true hero. The two became sworn brothers.
Chapter 2 Trust Level 4
Lei Kuan started his career in the Mareschal's forces as a low-ranking Adjutant. But wherever he went, the people remembered the rough-around-the-edges general. Though the Grand Mareschal recognized his skill, Lei Kuan never sought a higher post. He simply showed up wherever the fight was fiercest, driven by a duty to protect Hsüan-Chou's peace.
Chapter 3 Trust Level 6
In time, Lei Kuan and Meng Chen met Liang Ching, a soft-spoken Tactician who led with maps and ink instead of swords. At first, the two warriors had no respect for the bookish newcomer. But after surviving countless battles at Liang Ching's side, they realized there was more than one way to win a war. The three became inseparable, brothers not by blood, but by fire.
Chapter 4 Trust Level 8
When Meng Chen and Liang Ching fell in battle, Lei Kuan charged out in fury and the Draconian border defenses nearly collapsed. Lei Kuan went to the Grand Mareschal and demanded punishment, but begged not to be pulled from the front. He had two brothers to avenge, and the Darklings still owed him their lives. The Grand Mareschal understood. Even in grief, Lei Kuan remained the one commander the Darklings still feared. And so he was ordered to carry the will of the fallen and keep the border safe.
