People always said Peech the potion-seller's daughter was mad, even more so than her mother. She ate poisonous toadstools with every meal and washed her face with all manner of concoctions, muttering constantly about the coming end of the world. Every year, a handful of Greenfoot Clan Goblins would succumb to toadstool addiction. Perhaps it was better for them to live among the downtrodden in the slums of Blackcrow Gorge.
"A sage has come from Gnawgrit! She's as powerful as she is mad!" To shut up the chattering masses, the filthy-rich kingpin of Blackcrow Gorge, Kretzler, had imposed ever more punitive taxes. The growing gap between rich and poor proved to be the perfect hotbed for the growth of the Toadstoolian movement.
Beyond the mountains lay a mountain without a peak. Far beyond the sea lay a sea without waves. And in a place far above the sky lay two great and invisible hands. They pressed gold into the Reavers' hands, knocked Goblins into pits of filth, created trees that could not be felled and towers that could not be torn down, and fanned the flames of war... Maggrat lay among the toadstools, bathed in their fragrance, floating upon a chaotic void.
In the year 1183, Maggrat instigated an unprecedented rebellion in Blackcrow Gorge, as her Toadstoolians succeeded in overthrowing the regime of bribery overseen by the region's rich and powerful. But their victory was short lived. As a resurgent mercenary army arrived intent on wiping them out, the Toadstoolians had no choice but to flee into the Crowflock Wilds. In what seemed a cruel twist of fate, it was there that Maggrat uncovered traces of Goblin civilization before their enslavement. The world would know of Nokkvar, last King of the Goblins, and the tale of his glorious reign.
