Thanatil was born into an ancient noble family forever marked by shame. During Yaen's rebellion, his ancestors abandoned the Elven Queen and embraced forbidden magic, helping Yaen's Dark Mages spread corruption across the forest. Though the traitors perished centuries ago, their betrayal was never forgotten. Wherever Thanatil went, whispers followed. To many Elves, his family's name remained a wound that refused to heal. From childhood, he swore that his bloodline would never again be remembered for creating darkness—but for destroying it.
To restore his family's honor, Thanatil became Commander of the Shadow Hunters, an elite order of mounted knights dedicated to hunting the last remaining Dark Mages across the Elven realm before their forbidden rituals could spread corruption through the forests. Their greatest weapons were speed, discipline, and steel. Through years of relentless pursuit, they learned to recognize the signs of every curse, unravel the workings of forbidden rituals, and strike before darkness could take root. Among the Elves, no name inspired greater fear in practitioners of black magic than the Shadow Hunters.
During the Battle of the Hexwood, an Elven cult devoted to Yaen attempted to shatter the magical seals of the Shadowglade and free the imprisoned Dark Mages. Thanatil led the Shadow Hunters in their charge, and beheaded the cult's master with his scythe. Yet the ritual unleashed a torrent of magic that scarred his face and chained his soul to the darkness he had sworn to destroy. Many Elves wrongly believed that he was the one who had led the dark ritual. Disfigured and with his reputation shattered, Thanatil abandoned his noble title, wrapped his face beneath a dark scarf, and disappeared into the ranks of the Watchers, believing silence was the only answer to suspicion.
When the Darklings emerged and the ancient barriers around the Shadowglade began to weaken, imprisoned Dark Mages once again slipped into the world. The Shadow Hunters had long since vanished, their banners buried beneath history. Only Thanatil remained. With his black double-bladed scythe in hand and his owl crest watching over the night, he rides the borders of the Shadowglade without rest, hunting every trace of forbidden magic before it can spread. He no longer fights for glory, redemption, or forgiveness. He fights because someone must stand between the darkness and those who will never know how close it truly is.
